Treating the dental concerns of infants, children, and teenagers requires extremely trained hands and a friendly approach. If children do not like the dentist or find them slightly upsetting, they could throw a tantrum and not let the dentist treat them. Hence, at Mint Dental, we practice a warm and compassionate approach to treating children.
What are the prominent treatment procedures?
Though pediatric dentists are qualified to perform a variety of dental procedures, there are a few prominent ones that we carry out more frequently. Some of them are:
Filling cavities: Children love chocolates and candies. While eating sweet foods isn’t a problem in itself, allowing the residue left by the sugary content to stay on the teeth for a long time is the actual concern. The microbes in the mouth feed on it and release acids that can erode the enamel and cause tooth decay. We will clear out the decay, disinfect the cavity, apply a suitable filling material to it, and shape it accordingly. The filling prevents reinfection and restores the tooth’s shape.
Fluoride treatment: The teeth’ natural ability to stay immune to cavities is facilitated by a substance called fluoride. It is supplied to the body by means of drinking water and the toothpaste we use. Fluoride treatment can help replenish its amount artificially if the teeth aren’t provided an ideal amount of fluoride. We will apply a topical fluoride paste on the teeth, leave it on the surface for a few minutes, and rinse it off later. This increases the teeth’ strength and keeps them from developing cavities.
Sealants: The molars and premolars are susceptible to cavities more than any other teeth. This is due to the presence of occlusal grooves on their surfaces, which can house thousands of microbes, thereby leading to cavities. Sealants are acrylic or composite resinous applicants that are applied on the occlusal grooves to cover them completely, thereby significantly reducing the chances of having cavities.
Orthodontic solutions: Malocclusion is a significant concern among children. When their milk teeth refuse to fall off in time, the permanent teeth could erupt deviated. This often leads to misalignment of the teeth and has to be treated in the early stages for maximum effectiveness. We offer orthodontic solutions in the form of dental braces and clear aligners.
